Limoges et Hautefort

Monday, April 20: Limoges and Hautefort.

Our morning stop was Limoges, which Google said was a hidden gem. It wasn't. We didn't find much to see, even the cathedral was a bit disappointing after the marvels we have seen. There was an old 13th C bridge, which was good to see...

We did, however, visit the famous Limoges ceramics factory, which of course was of great interest to Pat.

To make up for the disappointing visit to Limoges, we decided to click "avoid highways" on the 2.5 hour trip southward. The roads certainly were not highways, but it was a much more relaxed and interesting drive.
Along the way we accidentally came across a beautiful chateau at Hautefort. It is not as old as it looks, the current structure is 18th C on medieval foundations, and totally rebuilt after a disastrous fire in 1968, but still an interesting tour and beautiful gardens.

On to some even more narrow and winding roads to Rocamadour, which deserves a post of its own.... and so, to publish.

  1. Your weather looks lovely. Again, beautifully framed photos. Mom gave me some Limoge small plates that were a wedding present to Grandma Wray. They're beautiful, but just live in the cabinet below my China cabinet. I wonder what will become of them in the future.
